I bought this van to turn into an RV. Not being a body guy I decided it was more than what I wanted to take on so I bought a new van (at a lot higher cost)
that didn't need the body work. It runs very well. Good candidiate if you are good at body work or want to drop another body on it. I haven't done anything
on it yet, this is how I bought it. This is what I know, again, I haven't gone all over it as I was going to start the build for an RV and most of the details
aren't important for my use. It will drive around and on the trailer, but I wouldn't drive it any distance utnil I went through it - and put shocks on it.
I am likely planning to sell it this spring but if you are interested, shoot me an email.
The good:
Clear VA title in my name
Runs well as it should, glow plugs glow and it starts up first crank
Low mileage especially for the year
Runs cool, no smoke or anything abnormal, runs strong, no loping or anything unexpected
Transmission works as designed, I can't see any issues there
Frame is solid, no rust through - body is the rust issue
The auto idle-up for a weak battery works (but I hate it and wanted to disable it)
I have the replacement body panels already that are ready to weld in, all purchased new
I have a replacement dog house if desired that doesn't have ambulance stuff mounted on it
I have the emergency light bar, but I don't think it is legal to put back on
High top Ambulance, high top is in good shape
Rear ambulance area appears to be in good shape, especially for its age
The bad:
Body is rusted, needs a lot of body work - cut it out and weld in the panels or replace body
Someone cut out the cat
Probably needs a new set of batteries, have to charge before starting, Alt is ok though
I haven't tried AC but I assume it needs a charge
Driver's door needs adjusted as it doesn't align and rubs the fender when opening
No shocks. Quigley confirmed it uses regular Ford shocks but I haven't put them on there.
The battery clamp needs replaced, I am using a small clamp but haven't messed with it yet.
